This page is to tell you a little about myself and some of my favourite woods and pieces I have made from them :
I started woodturning in the May of 2004 with a small but noisy Rexon WL12, the lathe was soon replaced with a Nova DVR which allow me to do bigger pieces with more control over the speed and torque. A lighter smaller lathe was added in
2008 which allows me to do demonstrations while attending craft shows and functions. Some of my favourite woods include English Yew, Sycamore and English Cherry. The English Yew has fantastic colours and grains, Sycamore is a very clean white and fresh wood, and English Cherry has a wonderful smell when it's turned fresh and green. Some of the more unusual woods I like to work with are the range of Australian Burr's
( as below from the back and the front).
Areas of woodturning that I would like to try this year are segment work on rim inserts for bowls, full segment bowls and vases large and small. I would also like to try the inlace work on platters and bowl rims- maybe incorporating the segment work. Inside / outside turning which involves gluing up 4 pieces of wood, turning them and separating the pieces then regaling and final turning (this maybe a good "how-to" article )
All of these new ideas have one big problem - time. I am constantly busy preparing for shows throughout the year, while also maintaining a full time job and my family life.
I intend to use the blog as an update on the various projects I am undertaking and general news throughout the year. Please visit the forums and leave comments (once logged in) or ideas, if you would like me to make a item from your piece of wood / tree then please use the contact form. If you see us at one of our shows please come and say hello.
Thanks for reading Paul
